Hi, I’m Diane…
I help women rebuild their lives after experiencing intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and/or religious trauma and empower them to live their biggest dreams. Having survived a relationship fraught with domestic violence and escaping from an oppressive religious movement, I understand the unique struggles and perspectives of those caught up in these situations. I have six of the most amazing kiddos and three fabulous grandbabies who do this thing called “life” with me. When I’m not facilitating groups or coaching, you will find me attempting to play pickleball, at the yoga studio, or listening to an audiobook on my porch.
My Why…
I could give you many reasons why I work with survivors, but basically, I work with these women because I’ve been there. I know what it’s like to WISH, beg, and PLEAD, for things to change. I know the helplessness and hopelessness that sits in the gut like lead and what it feels like to leave and not know what to do next. I know what it’s like to fear I will fail my children. I know what it feels like to throw off indoctrinated thinking and to feel strength and fire growing in my belly. I know what it’s like to take that first scary step. I know what it feels like to achieve goals and see my children excel in their goals. I know what it feels like to make my own choices, be happy, and begin to trust myself. I know what it feels like to look a woman in the eyes and tell her, “I understand. I have walked this path. I can help.” I know what it feels like to watch that same woman grow in her strength, surpasses her goals, and change her life. So, what is my WHY? Because I’ve been there, and I can help you.
My Credentials…
I have worked with survivors for almost a decade in individual, group, and shelter settings. I have a BSW, a master’s degree in health education and promotion, and a MSW. I am a Behavioral Change Specialist (ACE) and have my 200HR Yoga Teacher Training Certification. I am EMDR trained and have recently been accepted into the Somatic Experiencing International’s Somatic Practitioner’s Program. In August of this year, I was appointed to the NASW-AL Board as the MSW Student Representative for the state of State of Alabama. Currently, I teach Restorative yoga at Soul Shine Yoga Studio in Fairhope, AL.
