Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people seek therapy because they feel stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, or ready for something to change. Therapy can provide a space to better understand yourself, heal from past experiences, strengthen relationships, and move toward the life you want to create.

Do I need to have experienced "major trauma" to work with you?

No. Trauma can result from many different experiences, including difficult relationships, emotional neglect, chronic stress, betrayal, loss, religious harm, or experiences that left you feeling unsafe, powerless, or disconnected from yourself. You do not need a specific diagnosis or traumatic event to benefit from trauma-informed therapy.

What can I expect during the first session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, explore your goals, review relevant history, and talk about what you hope to gain from the process. You do not need to tell your entire story during the first appointment.

How long does therapy take?

Every person's journey is different. Some clients seek support for a specific challenge, while others choose longer-term therapy to address deeper patterns and experiences. We will regularly discuss your goals and make sure therapy continues to meet your needs.

What if I've never been to therapy before?

Many of my clients are new to therapy. It's completely normal to feel nervous, uncertain, or unsure of what to expect. My goal is to create a welcoming, collaborative environment where you feel comfortable moving at your own pace.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes, virtual therapy allows many clients to access support from the comfort and privacy of their own homes.

Do you work with teens?

Yes, I work with teens who are navigating trauma, anxiety, difficult life experiences, relationship challenges, and other concerns impacting their well-being.

Do you work with couples?

Yes, I provide trauma-informed couples therapy when trauma, attachment wounds, relationship injuries, or difficult life experiences are affecting the relationship.

What if I'm not ready to talk about everything?

That's okay.

Therapy is not about forcing yourself to revisit painful experiences before you're ready. We move at a pace that feels safe and manageable. I like to say we move at the speed of trust. Building trust, developing coping skills, and creating a sense of safety are important parts of the process.

You never have to share more than you're comfortable sharing.

Do I need to share your religious beliefs to work with you?

No, I welcome clients from all faith backgrounds, as well as those questioning, redefining, or exploring their beliefs. My role is not to tell you what to believe but to help you explore your experiences, values, and goals in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment.

How much does therapy with you cost?

Private pay fees are $145 for individual therapy, $165 for couples therapy, and $185 for family therapy. Group therapy is $40 per meeting, with groups typically lasting six to twelve weeks.

For clients using insurance, I am in-network with BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama. A limited number of sliding-scale appointments are also available.

Whether you choose to use insurance or private pay, therapy is an investment in living with greater clarity, connection, and resilience. The work you do in therapy often extends far beyond the therapy room, strengthening your relationships, your family, and your community.
